Maple River Conservation

The Miller Van Winkle Chapter of Trout Unlimted has been actively involved in hopes of restoring the Maple River in Emmet County to its once more pristine and ecologically rich Blue Ribbon quality of it’s past. In coordination with the CRA, Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, DNR, FWS, Huron Pines, MITU, and local and state government agencies, we hope to make a ten year plan to improve the watershed as a whole. From Brown Trout redd Surveys to Habitat Mapping, Electro shocking data collection and streambank erosion prevention to seeding and planting native trees along its banks in over used areas from decades ago, the collobarative efforts of many parties can make this a reality in our lifetime.
