Michigan-Specific Fly Fishing Sites

The leading links bank to get connected to websites relating to Michigan fly fishing is MichiganOnTheFly. They advertise themselves as Michigan’s fly fishing directory, and that is precisely what it is. Although the site is a bit ad-heavy, it is true that it provides a range of useful links to those who are looking for information on Michigan angling.

Homewaters is a real estate company specializing in Northern Michigan river and lakefront property sales and in representing buyers interested in obtaining sporting properties. They have built a very useful and user-friendly website that makes it easy to search and explore properties online. They also offer some angling information under their resources page.

General Fly Fishing Sites

If the standard is fresh and interesting content, without a doubt the best general fly fishing site on the Internet is Midcurrent. With a focus exclusively on fly fishing, and a team of writers and editors who are genuinely connected to the fly fishing community, the site is constantly raising the bar on what can be done in the world of digital publishing.

Another great site when it comes to getting genuinely useful information presented in a classy way is Ask About Fly Fishing.  In this case the medium is Internet radio, but the site offers an opportunity to hear some great discussions on a range of topics relating to trout fishing with a fly. Much of the podcasting being done really isn’t tht good, but this series of shows is a notable exception and worth tuning in to hear.

People Who Fight the Good Fight

Head on over to the website for the Great Lakes Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers, to start. Packed with information and links, the Federation of Fly Fishers is an umbrella organization for fly anglers involved in sporting causes of all kinds, with a particular focus on environment and education. Some of the FFF’s member organizations I think deserve special mention, including Flygirls, the Michigan Fly Fishing Club (one of the great, old state organizations), the Michigan chapter of the Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock, and of course the Anglers of the AuSable.

I would be remiss to not point the way to the other major fly fishing-related organization, which is of course the Michigan chapter of Trout Unlimited. Michigan TU playing major host in the TU 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan.
